While we strongly oppose the BDS movement, we are convinced this bill goes against the fundamental democratic principle of freedom of expression.
In direct contradiction to claims that it would somehow protect Israel, the boycott bill actually gives ammunition to those questioning Israel’s democratic standing and supporting delegitimization campaigns, specifically boycott movements.
JCall is relieved however that the bill was not passed at the government’s initiative and that the left, Kadima as well as some Likoud MPs have voted against it.
As several human rights NGOs have legally challenged the bill, we have good hope the Israeli High Court will strike it down, in accordance with many Israeli lawyers’ assessment.
